SANDALWOOD (EXTERNAL USE) SANDALWOOD THE PLANT OR HEARTWOOD. Scientific name: Santalum Album. Description: A small evergreen tree up to 9 m tall, of the Rhytoidea family. Sandalwood is the wood from which the tree has released its fragrant yellowish oil. Ideally, Sandalwood should be over 60 years old. Origin: East India. History: Already since the 5th century BC, Sandalwood was valuable as wood and as an aromatic oil. SANDALWOOD – THE "ORGANIC" ESSENTIAL OIL Technique: Extracted from the wood of the tree, by steam distillation. Composition: With a high content (70%) of Sesquiterpenols: cadinol, balsamiol and caryophyllene, ingredients that give the oil its beneficial properties. Smell: Cool and spicy, oriental in style and pale yellow in color. Country of origin: India PROPERTIES Soothing, antiseptic, relaxing, antimicrobial. Use in Aromatherapy: Cough, cold, bronchitis, laryngitis and other upper respiratory infections. Known from research for its regenerative properties on the skin and is therefore ideal for suppressing skin irritations (after shaving, etc.) and for healing wounds and injuries. It treats depression, mental disharmony and anxiety. Relaxes and suppresses tension in body and mind. It creates an atmosphere of calm and positivity and aids in meditation. It is considered an aphrodisiac when combined with Ylang-Ylang and Patchouli. Combines with : Essential oils of Frankincense, Black Pepper, Lavender, Neroli, Patchouli, Cedar, Myrrh, Rose, Citronella, Ylang-Ylang.
